Katuneriya Youth becomes the inaugural winners of the Brit Learning Challenge Cup 2013 held in Catford, London. The Surrey Cricket Festival 2013, best known as Brit Learning Challenge Cup 2013, was held in Catford and Cyphers Cricket club on 01st September 2013. This inaugural six a side soft ball tournament was organized by Brit Learning Ltd , a company vastly known among the Sri Lankans in the United Kingdom as an organization that helps in finding the correct university or college to pursue their education in the UK.
This Cricket Festival is the biggest summer festival to happen in Surrey and would happen annually in the coming years to showcase our young Sri Lankan budding talent. 25 teams from London and surrounding cities participated in this much anticipated tournament along with enthusiastic spectators.
The tournament started off with the blessings of Venerable Kahattewela Chandrajothi Nayaka Thera , Head of Thames Buddist Temple and Venerable Wanduramba KassapaThera, Head of the Athula Dassana International Buddhist Centre followed by the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the chief guest Mr Stephen Scarborough , Mr Shanaka Rudrigo ( Director of Brit Learning) proceeded on.
Head of Learning / Director Brit Learning Mrs. Clenshia Fernando welcomed all the delegates and invitee. As the matches commenced and progressed, the spectators and supporters all cheered and encouraged all the players. It was wonderful to have the Indian and Bangladeshi teams along with all the other teams. After a very competitive 1st and 2nd round, Crescent were beaten by Jolly Boys after a very tight match and Warriors were beaten by Leicester Eagles which was no surprise to the spectators.
The grand final was set for well known Jolly Boys and Leicester Eagles the which gave everyone the thrills to watch. The Leicester Eagles started off the match by opting to bat first. A few loose balls by the bowlers of Jolly Boys gave away a number of sixes which helped Leicester Eagles to score a high and competitive score. Jolly Boys were undoubtedly in pressure but put their level best to defend the total. With very discipline Bowling and magnificent fielding effort Katuneriya Youth well known as Leicester Eagles under the leadership of Kumara became the worthy winners of inaugural Brit Learning Challenge Cup 2013.
"It is a wonderful feeling, I'm proud of all my team mates and thank you Brit Learning for organizing this tournament and this was by far the best tournament in the Summer" said winning captain Kumara at the award presentation ceremony.

As a UK based organization,this was a very big challenge for us. Big thank you should go to Brit learning office staff and to the organizing team for making this event a success. Live music carried on with the well known London Baila Vocals performing for the public to enjoy after the finals. The event came on the praise of all and will be an event to look for years to come.
