Funeral of Leelaratna Kariyawasam ( Kapumahaththaya) - Kingsbury London
Funeral of the late Leelarathna Kariyawasam, who passed away on the 12th of November 2015, after a prolonged illness, was held on Saturday the 21st in London.
Hundreds of his friends gathered to pay their last respects as his funeral cortege made its way to the Sri Saddatissa International Buddhist Centre in Kingsbury. He was a very popular caretaker at the temple and served as the Kapumahaththaya in the Sri Vishnu and Katharagama Devalaya attending to requests of many devotees who came there looking for comfort and consolation in times of distress and difficulties.
From the temple his remains were taken to the Golders Green crematorium where the funeral ceremony was held. Members of the Maha Sangha, including the Chief Sangha Nayaka of Great Britain, Head of the Sri Saddatissa International Buddhist Centre Most Ven. Aggamaha Panditha Galayaye Piyadassi Nayaka Thera, Chief Sangha Nayaka of Western Province in Sri Lanka and the Head of the Athula Dassana Buddhist Vihra in Colombo Ven. Borelle Athula Nayaka Thera, Head of the Kachchuwaththa Purana Vihara Ven. Uluwitike Bodhiseeha Thera, Ven. Prof. Deegalle Mahinda Thera of Bath Spa university conducted the funeral service.
