No black coffee at Sam’s alms giving

President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe met each other recently at the seventh day alms giving in memory of Sam Wijesinghe, former Secretary General of Parliament. The pinkama took place at late Mr Wijesinghe’s residence in Mount Lavinia. Both leaders were among those present.

President Rajapaksa inaugurates renovation work of Beragala-Wellawaya road

Renovation work on the stretch of road from Beragala to Wellawaya via Koslanda of the Badulla District in the Uva Province was inaugurated under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Koslanda junction on 13 August. The 34 kilo meters Beragala Wellawaya road project will be carried out by the road development authority with local funds as envisioned in the Mahinda Chinthana accelerated road development projects.

Sri Lanka’s largest book exhibition kicks off

President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open the Colombo International Book Exhibition-2014, Sri Lanka's largest book fair yesterday morning at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike Exhibition Centre at BMICH premises amidst a large number of book publishers in the country and overseas. This book fair will continue until September 16th from 9.00am to 9.00pm. The Sri Lanka Book Publishers Association (SLBPA)  is organizing this Exhibition for the 16th occasion.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa declared open four more newly constructed Mahindodaya Technical Laboratories (MTLs) at the Udawela Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Kendagolla Navodya Maha Vidyalaya, Badulla Central College, Badulla Saraswathi Tamil Vidyalaya and the Highland Tamil School of the Badulla District in the Uva Province.

Malalgoda appointed as Appeal Court President

President’s Counsel Attorney At Law Vijith Kumara Malalgoda was sworn in as the new President of the Sri Lanka Court of Appeal before President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees today (09 August).

Malalgoda has previously served as the Additional Solicitor General. He holds a Masters of Law from the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom and previously held the position of judge advocate with the Sri Lanka Air Force.

A new rooftop solar power system that has been installed at the new building complex situated at the entrance to the Mitirigala Nissarana Vanaya (Mitirigala Forest Hermitage) was declared open by Mr. Senaka Weeraratna, Hony. Secretary, German Dharmaduta Society on Sunday August 17, 2014 at the conclusion of a commemorative meeting held to mark the 15th death anniversary of Asoka Weeraratna (Ven. Dhammanisanthi Thera) the founder of the Mitirigala Nissarana Vanaya.
