Sinhala Tamil New Year 2015 - Sri Lankan Association in Nagoya

The Sri Lanka Association Central Japan (SLACJ) in Nagoya, in close co-ordination with the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan, celebrated the Sinhala Tamil New Year on 5th April 2015 in Nagoya in the presence of a large number of Sri Lankans domiciled in the Prefectures of Aichi, Gifu and Mie as well as Japanese and foreign nationals. The Charge d’ Affaires of the Embassy, Dr. Saj Mendis, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Sri Lankans in Japan celebrate New Year in Tokyo 2015

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Japan and the New Year Festival Executive Committee, in close association and coordination with Tokyo based Associations, celebrated the Sinhala Tamil New Year in Chofu Sports Stadium in the city of Chofu in the Prefecture of Tokyo. Well over 6,000 Sri Lankan nationals domiciled in Japan, particularly, in nearby cities of Tokyo, and Japanese and foreign nationals attended the Sinhala-Tamil New Year Festival. The Director General of Chofu International Friendship Association was the Chief Guest and the senior most officials of the office of the Mayor of ChofuCity were the Guests of Honor. The Charge d' Affaires of the Embassy, Dr. Saj U. Mendis, welcomed the Guests.

Japan - Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo celebrates 67th Independence Day

The 67th Anniversary of the Independence of Sri Lanka was held on Wednesday, 4th February 2015 at the Reiyukai Hall in Tokyo. The event which was organized by the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tokyo was held with a large gathering of Sri Lankan expatriates in Japan.

Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo Celebrates Vesak

The Embassy premises was decorated and illuminated with colourful bulbs, Vesak buckets and Vesak lanterns made by the staff of the Embassy bringing the Sri Lankan Vesak atmosphere to Tokyo.  The guests along with the staff participated in lighting of buckets, reflecting Buddha’s message of peace and harmony.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka calls on Senior Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan

Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Japan, met with the Senior Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Norio Mitsuya, this week, as a follow up to the recently held Human Rights Council [HRC] elections in Geneva. Ambassador Admiral Karannagoda expressed the gratitude of the Government of Sri Lanka and of himself to the Government of Japan and to Minister Mitsuya for assuming the position of abstention of the vote on the Resolution against Sri Lanka at the HRC, thus demonstrating to the international community that Japan stands and upholds justice and fair play.

Sinhala and Tamil New Year Celebrations in Tokyo 13th April 2014

The Embassy of Sri Lanka together with the Sri Lankan Associations and Sri Lankan Community living in Japan organised the Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival on Sunday 13th April in Tokyo. A large gathering of over 5000 Sri Lankan and Japanese community members from all parts of Japan participated and celebrated this auspicious occasion. The Chief Guest at the opening ceremony was Hon. Yoshiki Nagatamo, Mayor of Chofu City.
