On Sunday 20th Oct. at 5:00 pm close to 250 Sinhala Music lovers congregated at the Castle Grand Rebellion Hall to experience a truly remarkable event. This was the launch of the 2nd Sinhala CD by the Writers’ Guild of Sydney which is an ancillary organisation of the Sinhala Cultural Forum.
A jam packed Rebellion Function Hall audience was treated to an outstanding dancing extravaganza at the outset. This was a classical dance offering to the goddess Saraswati – the goddess of knowledge, music and all creative arts. This was performed by the students of renowned dancing teacher, Rajini Fonseka, beautifully sung by Visharad Indu Premathilake. Saraswati song was composed by Cicil Fonseka to the lyrics of Malee Dissanayake.
After the welcome speech by Dr. Palitha Ganewatte, the audience was treated to a few songs from the CD, sung by the talented singers of Sydney. It was evident from the first song onwards that the standard of the compositions, lyrics and singing was high. The chief guest, the Consul General Bandula Jayasekara’s encouraging, kind words were very well received by the artists of Sydney who worked hard to make this CD a success. The music and entertainment continued, deeply engaging the audience and the Consul General who was planning to leave at 6:00 pm forgot to do so.
