Report from the Hall - “Glitz & Glamour” was the theme of the Dinner Dance organized by the Methodist College PPA (NSW) held on Saturday 10th August 2013.
The event was a great success and was sold out long before the event date. The Epping Club, Sydney’s five star award winning club was a perfect venue for it. Elegant décor of beautiful red glass lanterns flickering with the glow of candles, chairs draped in the finest satin of dull gold held up with a rose, and the beautifully presented tables added to the ambience of the surroundings. All this contributed to a night focused on glamour. The guests added further glamour to the night dressed in very elegant silks. The ladies were presented with a gift flown in from overseas and beautifully wrapped to remind them of a night that “sparkled with style”. A souvenir was handed to their partners and reflected the wonderful support the committee had from the invaluable and generous sponsors, advertisers and donors of prizes.
As is customary with all Methodist College functions, the College flag in its striking green and white colors hung proudly at the entrance of the ballroom as a reminder of traditions from yesteryear.
From pre- dinner drinks and canapés in the foyer to the excellent selection of wines, soft drinks, delectable entrees, main courses and desserts that titillated the palate, the Epping Club outdid itself with its fine culinary expertise. Everyone present that night were able to renew old friendships, make new and lasting ones and feel comfortable to have a good time.
Once the guests entered the ballroom the events proceeded with meticulous precision, skillfully handled by the Master of Ceremonies for the night, Mr.Senani Gunasekera. Senani kept the audience entertained the whole night, with his exhilarating brand of compeering. The night began with the Presidents Message followed by the school song being sung lustily by all the MC-ites present that evening. Music for dancing was exceptional with Desmond and Impressions Show Band at his inimitable best. They provided music from Waltzes to the Blues, familiar hits of the 60’s, 70’s, through to the latest hits. The “Baila” tunes brought back warm and fond memories of our resplendent island home Sri Lanka. The dance floor was full throughout the evening with the young and not so young dancing the night away. The “Fotia Greek Dancers” added excitement to the evening with their presentation of the Zorba Dance.
The raffle and door prizes did not disappoint the guests either. Many were the screams of glee from the lucky winners.
The success of the dance was most evident by the accolades received from the guests present that night. On all counts it was another well planned and exquisitely presented event organized by a fantastic committee whose untiring efforts paid rich dividends.
