Biennial Sinhala Schools Concert Australia 2014
Published: 06 Sep 2014
It was the 13th time the Sinhala language schools staged their biennial concert, with colour, music and vigour. Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre at Penrith saw another house-full event showcasing the linguistic and performing arts talents of the Sinhalese Language School students in NSW, Australia operated by the Sinhalese Cultural Forum of NSW. Over 200 school students performed on stage while the cheerful audience celebrated their talents.
The principle of North Parramatta Public School Mrs. Kathryn Methven and the vice president of the Australian Federation of Ethnic Schools Associations Mr. Thru Thinathankumar were the distinguished guests in the event.
Parents and well-wishers lined up hours before starting time to enter the venue to witness this once in two years event. Planned, organised, trained, and executed including stage lighting and sounds etc all by volunteers, highlighting the generosity, enthusiasm and the spirit in the community. Events of this calibre are deemed to be vital in terms of building confidence in children while their inherent cultural features and aspects are being embedded deeply in them. With this, the Sinhalese Cultural Forum of NSW has proudly done another great community service in fostering the Sinhalese culture in NSW.
