Walking through the streets of Paris, and thinking of having a typical French lunch, I was first struck by a 'Sri Lankan looking' lady standing inside an eatery, which resembled a Japanese restaurant, with its name board too displaying the words, Japonais Sumiyaki. In my endeavour to kill curiosity, later I found her not only to be very much Sri Lankan but the very owner of Japonais Sumiyaki and two more Japanese restaurants in the heart of Paris. In response to her cordial invitation and typical Sri Lankan hospitality I ultimately ended up having lunch with her, at her restaurant, where the menu happened to be completely Japanese with all its varieties including raw fish!

There are perhaps only a handful of persons right throughout the world, who have a multidisciplinary background and international exposure, who also could express views from which the entire mankind could benefit. Vineeethe Thambugala is such a global citizen, yet maintains a very low profile. Being an intellectual, scholar, travel consultant and an authority on a wide range of foreign languages he portrays as a global citizen fluent in multitude of languages, yet well established in Sri Lanka. He is also an author of several books on language studies including 'Multilingual phrase book' with pronunciation in Sinhala and explanations in basic useful phrases in German, French, Japanese, Italian and Spanish.

He is small built,  short and has a mischievous look about him. He does not have to open his mouth but one glance at his eyes and his cheeky smile makes you laugh. Whether it is a born talent or acting experience  it blends perfectly with the characters he has been slotted into as a comedian.

Performing Arts is a difficult discipline which demands a lot of talent, charisma, and magnetism in a personality. Once engaged in this highly competitive profession it is equally difficult to remain on the peak for too long!  To survive twenty-five years in such an industry and still to be counted as one of the popular artistes by television and cinema audiences one needs tremendous ability and an equal measure of luck too.
