A chartered engineer by profession, he made his debut into the tele-drama scene by co-producing and acting in Sriyani Amarasena’s "Ira Batu Tharuwa" in 2000. In 2004, he won the Sumathi award for acting in Rodney Widanapathirana’s "Hemanthaye Wasanthayak" filmed entirely in London.
His newest tele-drama "Guwan Palama" (The Bridge in the Sky) is now being filmed in Switzerland. Some scenes will also be shot in Austria and Italy. This 60-episode production will be ready to be telecast to Sri Lankan audiences towards the end of 2014.
‘Guwan Palama’ is jointly directed by Sriyani Amarasena and produced by Shiromi Matharage, Sriyani Amarasena and Roshan Fernando.
The lead roles are played by Wimal and Sriyani, Dananjaya Siriwardane, Thisuri Yuwanika, Susantha Chandramalai, Nilan Sandaruwan, Nimal Gunatilleke, Roshan Fernando and Dilu Fernando. Many foreign actors are also amongst the cast.
Somadasa Maldeniya is the assistant director and the cameraman is Sanjeeva Kumara assisted by Indika Attanayake.
Alahakoon has so far acted in nine tele-dramas and three Poya dramas including ‘Ira Bata Tharuwa’, Hemanthaye Wasanthayak’, Gini Veluma’, ‘Pushpa Ragaya’, ‘Hima Piyali’, ‘Serisara Lihini’, ‘Ananthaya, Sagarayen’ ‘Geethayak’ and ‘Sihina Paradeesaya’.
In an interview with Sri Express, he said "I have just completed a film called "Ira Sewaya’ directed by Rodney Widanapathirana and produced by Kanthi Alahakoon. I am playing the main role with Rebecca Nirmali and Maureen Charuni. This was filmed in Sri Lanka and London".
"With regard to ‘Guwan Palama’, it is being filmed currently in Switzerland (including a location in the beautiful Swiss Alps), Austria and Italy. Some scenes will also be shot in Sri Lanka. I am playing the main role with Sriyani Amarasena".
He said the story revolves around a Gypsy youth (Dananjaya), who escapes from his underprivileged life to Switzerland in search of freedom and equality in life. After some turbulence in life overseas, he meets a girl (Thisuri ) and the film ends in delivering a noble message that all beings on this planet are equal, irrespective of their caste or creed.
"This tele-drama will be converted into a two-hour to be exhibited to the Sri Lankan expatriate community in many parts of the world".
