Schoolchildren of war heroes in Kurunegala, Puttalam and Kegalle districts were donated with School appliances at a function held at Deyata Kirula MoD site premises in Kuliyapitiya on the 23rd February.

The event was organized by the Armed Forces and Police welfare Division established under Ministry of Defence and Urban Development. The division was initially established in 2007 in order fulfill the welfare necessities of the war heroes and their family members according to a brainchild of His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the purview of Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

During the today's event 200 children were presented with schooling needs comprised of School bags, exercise books and classroom stationeries. Children of the war hero families of tri forces, police and Civil Security Department (CSD) are eligible to receive the presents. Schoolchildren from grade 1 to 6 will be given the gift parcels at the Armed Forces and Police welfare Division's stall in MoD site after proving their identity with the birth certificate. The division is expected to handover around 3500 gift parcels until the end of the Deyata Kirula exhibition.

The event was headed by Additional Secretary (defence) of Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Hettiarachchi, director of the Armed Forces and Police welfare Division Mrs. Malkanthi Jayawardane, director projects of the division Major General (Rtd) Wasantha Kumara.

Mr. Hettiarachchi also visited the MoD site during his tour in the Deyata Kirula exhibition.

War hero families and their children were also present at the occasion.
