Late Parakrama Ranasinghe Remembered
On the occasion of the 11th death anniversary of late Parakrama Ranasinghe, former President of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party UK and Europe branch,his family and friends arranged a special Sangika Dhana at the Sri Sadhdhatissa International Buddhist Centre in London.
Head of the Vihara Ven. Aggamaha Panditha Galayaye Piyadassi, MBE, Nayaka Thera and all the resident monks, members of his family and many of his close friends attended the mid-day service.
Ven. Piyadasi Nayaka Thera on his Anusasana said that late Mr. Ranasinghe was a important and very close supporter of the Vihara and helped in many a ways with all the religious, educational and cultural activities carried out by the temple. He further said he personally knew that, as a solicitor working in London he has helped many Sri Lankans who have come to him for advice and assistance related to immigration and other matters.
"He was accessible and available always to anyone who wanted a consultation at any time, either during office hours or during unsocial hours at his residence and money was never a consideration. He has helped many people many a time without any fee being demanded." Ven. Thera said.
He thanked Mrs. Manel Ranasinghe and her family for their continuous support extended to the temple activities and regular attendance of the temple programmes.
Ven. Dr.Handupaplpola Mahinda Nayaka Thera delivering a sermon said that he knew late Mr. Ranasinghe for a long time and remembered an incident where he ”went out of his way” to help the Nayaka Thera to solve a matter at the Ministry of Education, Colombo, where Mr. Ranasinghe was employed at the time.
Parakrama worked tirelessly to restructure the Sri Lanka Freedom Party UK and Europe branch when the party was in the opposition. During his time as its President, SLFP UK and Europe branch became the most active and successful overseas branch of the party.
