Following the success of ourcomputer classes, Little Aid are pleased to announce our newest educational project, Spoken English classes.
The classes started on Friday 2nd August 13 in the same venue as our computer classes in Killinochchi . A local charity has given the whole building to Little Aid. People from the Thirunagar and Uruthirappuram, interior areas of Killinochchi, are benefiting from this project. 97 people applied for the classes and 85 attended for interview. We have selected 50 students based on those with the greatest need and who are most socioeconomically disadvantaged.
The classes will be taught by a full time teacher who was selected from a number of candidates and is very dedicated to improving the opportunities for students. Being able to speak English is a great advantage for interviews and jobs and the aim will be to increase basic skills and confidence.
This Spoken English classes project is fully funded by Ahilan Foundation in London. This is the 2nd project collaboration of Little Aid and Ahilan Foundation. Little Aid has taken the responsibility of the administration and the management of this project. Ahilan Foundations founder Mr Gopal has committed for a minimum of two years for this project. During year 2009 - 2011, Ahilan Foundation also funded Little Aid's St Xavier's College Mannar , orphanage project. On this project, Ahilan Foundation spent over £60,000.
