Dhamma Talk By Ven. Ugandawe Buddharakkitha Thera at London Buddhist Vihara
A meditation session and a Dhamma Talk on " Four Wheels of Spiritual Success " conducted by Ven. Ugandawe Buddharakkitha Thera was held at the London Buddhist Vihara.
A large number of devotees of the Vihara and followers of Ven. Buddharakkitha Thera attended the programme.
Head of the London BUddhist Vihara and Chief Sanghanayaka of Great Britain Ven. Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thera thanked Ven. Buddharakkitha Thera for taking time to visit the temple and conducting such a inspiring meditation and Dhamma Talk programme.
Ven. Ugandawe Buddharakkitha Thera was born in to a Catholic family in Uganda, East Africa.
He first encountered Buddhism in 1990 while studying at Panjab University in Chandigar,India, and began practicing meditation in 1993. After living in Asia for seven years, he decided to continue his Dhamma practice in the U.S.A.
In June 2001, he began monastic training, and in November 2002 he received Higher Ordination by his Preceptor the late Venerable U. Silananda at Tathagata Meditation Centre, California.
He continued his meditation practice under the guidance of Ven. Henepola Gunaratana Thera for eight years at the Bhavana Society, West Virginia.
He has published several very informative books on Buddhism including,
Planting Dhamma Seeds: The Emergence of Buddhism in Africa and Drop By Drop Practicing Dhamma in Daily life.
Since 2003 Ven. Buddharakkitha has been teaching meditation in Africa, Brazil, Europe, Austarilia, Asia and the United States. Besides spending time at the Buddhist Center in Uganda, he also works as a teacher at Bhavana Society and the Spiritual Advisor of Flowering Lotus meditation centre, Magnolia, Mississippi, U.S.A. He appeared on a stamp of Japan, in 2008.
Ven. Buddharakkitha is also involved in teaching meditation at the International Buddhist Academy in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Ven. Buddharakkitha's mother Ven. Dhammakami is the only Buddhist Nun in Africa.
