VAS ARADHANAVA at Kingsbury Temple - United Kingdom
It is the tradition for the Buddhist Clergy to observe VAS or the rainy season retreat, just after the Esala Ful Moon Poya Day.
This year it is on July 22nd. But for the convenience of the Devotees the ceremony was conducted on Sunday 21st July at 7.00 PM in the midst of a large gathering.
The invitation for Vas was extended by four long time devotees of the Temple - Mrs. Taxila Karunaratne and family; Mrs Bhagiya Silva and family; Mrs Sumithra Wimaladasa and family; and Mrs Pramodini Liyanwela and family.
Aggamahapandita Ven. Galayaye Piyadassi Sangha Nayaka Thero initiated the proceedings with a short address. The Dhammacakka Pavithra Desanaya waschanted by Ven. Rekadahene Rathanasiri Thero of the Dhammaramaya, Agaliya, Baddegama. A short sermon on the significance of the Vas season was delivered by Ven. Dr Handupelpola Mahinda Thero, stressing the fact that Buddha was the first to voice Environmental concerns.The other resident monks are Ven. Waskaduwe Subodhi and Ven Nepale Sumana. The invited monks are Ven. Nepale Tissa and Ven Matale Wijewantha.
The Kathina Civara Pujava will be on Sunday 27th October 2013. And a full programme has been arranged for the Vas Season with Navaarahada Puja’s undertaken every Sunday evening.
