Annual Katina ceremony of Liverpool Sri Sambuddha viharaya was held with the participation of the chief prelate (Mahanayaka) of Sri Lanka Ramanna Maha Nikaya, Most Venerable.Napana Pemasiri Mahanayaka Thero, Chief Incumbent, Most Venerable.Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka Thero,other monks from various temples in United Kingdom and with a huge gathering of devotees on Sunday the 06th November 2016 at Prescot Town Hall.
The ceremony was gracefully organized under the guidance of Most Ven.Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka thero,The head monk of both Jethavana Buddhist vihara in Birmingham and Sri Sambuddha Viharaya in Liverpool and the chief Sanganayaka in Great Britain for Sri Lanka Ramanna maha Nikaya.Venerable monks were present from Sri lanka and various temples in United Kingdom at the ceremony.The participation of Mahanayaka Thero was conspicuous and very fortunate occassion for the ceremony with utmost blessings.
Venerable other monks who participated at the ceremony were Ven.Hurikaduwe Pannasekara thero from Sri Lanka, Ven.Mapalagama Soratha thero from Jethavana Buddhist Vihara in Birmingham, Ven.Teldeniyaye Amitha thero,The head monk of Shanti vihara in Nottingham,Ven.Galpotyaye pemananda thero and Ven.Udunuwara Indarathana thero from Kethumathi Buddhist Vihara in Manchester , Ven.Dodangoda Sumedha thero from Leceister Buddhist Vihara,Ven.Pelwatte Dhammananda thero from Buddhist Vihara in Bristol ,Ven. Panamure Rahula thero from Lechworth Buddhist Vihara and Ven.Thissapura Sugatharathana thero from Sri Sambuddha Viharaya in Liverpool.
Ceremony was started with the Buddha Puja which was conducted by Ven.Thissapura Sugatharathana thero and dana offering was conducted by Chief incumbent most Ven.Keppetiyagoda Gunawansa Nayaka thero.After Dana,devotees were served with refreshment before starting Katina procession.The Katina procession reminded all participants the beauty and the religious atmosphere of a typical Katina ceremony in a Buddhist village.The offering of Katina robe to maha sangha was conducted by chief prelate,Most Venerable Napana Pemasiri MayaNayaka thero.Thereafter,Two dhamma sermons were delivered in English by Ven.udunuwara Indarathana thero and in Sinhala by Ven.Teldeniyaye Amitha thero explaining the importance of offering a Katina robe and then devotees were served with Lunch Dana.
This year’s Katina ceremony was sponsored by mainly Mr.Suranga Mallawa & family , Mr.Dimal Lokuruge & family and Mr.Dinuka Jayaweera & family.All devotees and well wishers also joined together in sonsoring the Katina ceremony.
