Mr Wimal De Silva Obtituary notice
“It is not the length of life, but the depth of life.”
Mr H. Wimal De Silva, 76, passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on 2nd April 2016.
He was born on 31st December 1939 in Colombo, Sri Lanka and before coming to the United Kingdom as the Consular Officer for the Sri Lankan High Commission in 1990, he worked for the Department of Labour, Department of Rural Development and Cottage Industries, Department of Textile Industries and the Independent Television Network of Sri Lanka (ITN).
As a devoted Buddhist and an active member of the Sri Lankan community, he was best known for his passionate dedication to teaching Dhamma and Sinhala and aiding the development of the Sri Sadhatissa International Buddhist Centre and the Dhamma School. His altruistic nature led him to volunteer in the wider community as a governor of Kingsbury Green Primary School and Kingsbury High School. He also continued his voluntary work by teaching English to those who primarily spoke foreign languages.
An avid reader and brilliant writer and poet, his talent knew no bounds.
He is survived by his wife, Lalitha Samarasekara, his three sons, Sandaruwan De Silva, Chamila De Silva and Chula De Silva, his daughter-in-law’s, Pradeepa Bulegoda and Thishanthi Consulkorale De Silva and his only granddaughter, Thilini De Silva.
The funeral will take place in Colombo, Sri Lanka at a future date.
