Mahamevnaawa opens its 4th UK Branch
Under the guidance of the founder of the Mahamevnaawa Buddhist Monasterym Sri Lanka, Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnaanaanada Thera the Mahamevnaawa International Meditation Centre in the UK has opened its 4th branch on the Saturday 9th May in Stanmore.
The 4 bedroom semi-detached property at 56 Vernon Drive, Stanmore, Middlesex, HA7 2BT, was donated to the Sangha community by a Sri Lankan family. They said that when they decided to move from Stanmore to a new place outside London instead of selling the old home they decided to donate it to the Maha Sangha who are carrying on a noble service in spreading the Dhamma in the UK.
Ven. Katuneriye Dhammadewa Thera and Ven. Anuradhapura Kalyaanaseela Thera attended the opening of the new temple premises to perform the religious programme and accepted the property on behalf of "all the Maha Sangha in the Sasana at present and in the future".
Ven Dhammadewa Thera in a Dhamma sermon said that "offering shelter to monks is a great meritorious deed that will bring great spiritual benefits as it amounts to offering to the eighty great Arahants lead by the Venerables Sāriputta, Moggallāna the chief disciples of the Buddha and Mahaa Kassapa Maha Thera. This is possible because the Noble Sangha, the true sons of the Buddha, by their powerful virtues, permeate influence and honour even today."
The day began with the Buddha Puja and Buddha Vandanaa and offering of Dhana to the Maha Sangha. Ven. Anuraadhapura Kalyaanaseela Thera delivered an Anusaasanaa and thanked everyone who attended the ceremony.
