Rowie J: Making music down-under

Sri Lankan born, Rowie J won the Hit Makers Australia. She was only 9 when she moved to Melbourne. Her song ‘In the pocket’ has virtually placed Rowie J among the favorites of Australian music fans and she has also managed to secure a deal with a record label.
“I started singing when I was in high school. I joined the choir and got involved in school musicals and other singing activities. I eventually joined a singing school outside of school and realized how much I loved it and wanted to pursue as a career. As impossible as it seems at times, I just can’t give up,” she says about her entry into the music industry.
Rowie J says she grew up listening to singers in the caliber of Michael Jackson, boyz ii men, kci & jojo, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. “I am inspired a lot by Jason Mraz and Keri Hilson. I just love how they both are so true to themselves in everything they do. And of course my biggest hero of all is Michael Jackson. He inspired so many, has such powerful lyrics and has the most unique voice and style I’ve ever heard,” she adds.
Speaking about the song ‘In the pocket’ Rowie J says the track was written by herself, Sean Declase and Rohit Mukerjea. Sean is the owner of Hit Makers Australia and Ro is a producer and rapper .
Rowie J says ‘In the pocket’ is a musical term and it speaks about falling for someone unexpectedly and about independent and suddenly finding urself so into someone.
“Writing and recording this song was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my career! Everything just worked perfectly, we all got along really well and we all love our song,” she says.
